AIM OF THE PROJECT AND ITS MERITS

The aim of the project was implementation of a system for management of documents in educational institutions. The system allows entry, viewing and management of documents of various types ranging from study materials intended for an unauthenticated visitor to the portal, right through to minutes of meetings and decisions of academic functionaries.

Our task was, on the basis of specifications provided by the customer, to implement forms for searching, creation and editing of various types of documents.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT

Implementation of the project took place under time constraints and above-standard performance was required from all members of the project team.

The application is critical from the point of view of securing access to documents. Access Control Lists were used for access to individual objects in terms of the repository, which were statically defined, but also dynamically created while the system was running on the basis of the synchronisation process of the system with the LDAP server.

The application is made up of a user interface made up of portlets running on an IBM Websphere Portal, version 6.1. The basis used for creation of portlets is a Spring 2.0. application framework and its Spring Portlets module. Application logic based on an EJB2.0 framework takes care of application logic and data management. Metadata is saved in a DB2 database system and the documents themselves in an IBM Content Management System version 8.4.
